Over the
years I have come to gain a great deal of knowledge about photographer Irving Klaw. At first, I started collecting
a few photos here and there and then ran into a large lot of well over a few vintage photos while cleaning out the house of
a relative that were in remarkable condition. I have since held onto these photos as a sort of personal collection to Irving
Klaw and his great works with models throughout his lifetime. Here is a short informational bio about those who don’t
know about Irving Klaw and his business:
Irving
Klaw ran a mail-order business selling photographs and film of attractive women in bondage from the 1940s to the 1960s. He was one of the first fetish photographers, and his model Bettie Page became the first famous bondage model.
In the
1950s, Irving Klaw became known as the "King of Pin-Up". He made several films, the most well known being Varietease (1954) and Teaserama (1955), both of which feature Bettie Page (and were released
on DVD in the USA in 2000).
The "Kefauver
Hearings" of the Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency
in the United States marked the beginning of the end of Irving Klaw's mail-order photography business.
In 1955, Irving Klaw became subjected to a senate investigation witch hunt. The investigation attacked comic books citing the fact that many juvenile delinquents had read them. It also tried to link pornography with juvenile delinquency.
Because
of the political and social pressure Irving Klaw faced, he eventually quit the business, burning his negatives when he went.
(It is estimated that more than 80% of the negatives were destroyed).
Irving
Klaw died Labor Day weekend, 1966 due to complictions from an untreated appendicitis. He was survived by two sons, Arthur and Jeffrey.
My collection is now up for sale. I have decided to sell all of my
pictures and you are welcome to purchase them from me. I have them divided into two sections on this website, 4x5 photos (which
I have the most of) and 8x10 photos(which I have about 250 of.) All of the pictures on this site are tiny. There was
no feesable way for me to upload over a thousand photos for viewing so I made thumbnail pages for your viewing.
The photos have been placed into TWO distinct categories. One which contains Black and White
4x5 photos and one that contains Black and White 8x10 Photos. Please use the links to view these photos. For ordering information
and pricing, please see the Pricing/Policies page.
